Verge escapement, quarter repeating

Price £1650

This is a large and impressive French quarter repeating watch, with verge escapement, in a rose gold case, with silver guilloche dial.

MOVEMENT : A gilt fusee movement with verge escapement, and quarter repeating with two polished steel hammers striking two steel gongs. Nicely engraved and pierced balance bridge..

The quarter repeating function is activated by pressing in the stem, striking once for each hour and then trice for each quarter.

The movement is in good condition, and is running well. The repeat function is also working correctly with a nice clear chime.

DIAL : Fine silver dial in good condition, with just a couple of very small dents on the chapter ring and light scratches to the central guilloche engraving. Breguet style blued steel hands. The high dome crystal is fine.

The dial is missing the two dial feet which would have fixed it to the movement plate, so is currently secured with a small amount of adhesive. This is not visible, is removeable and the dial is held firmly. The dial could be a replacement, although the original position of the feet line up with the holes in the movement plate.

CASE : The rose gold case has engine turning to the back and the edge of the band. The inner gilt curvette is signed ‘Garcerand’ and numbered ’46’. The stem and inner back are stamped with French gold marks. Both movement and case are stamped with a serial number ‘856’.

The case is in good condition, but with wear to the engine turning on the back. The small slider used to lock the repeat is present but not functioning. All hinges are fine and the bezel, back cover and curvette all close correctly. Good high dome crystal.
