Silver pair cases
A large silver pair cased watch, with a verge movement and “Speed The Plough” painted dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (4097). It is in good condition and is running well.
DIAL : White enamel, 47.65 mm in diameter. Painted rural scene, with the traditional title “SPEED THE PLOUGH”. Perfect condition except for a flake around the centre aperture. Gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, 51 mm in diameter. Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1846. Maker’s mark P&G? and also marked “3 OZ” (3 ounces). A little wear to the bow but otherwise excellent condition throughout. High dome bull’s eye crystal with surface scratches. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly.
OUTER CASE : Silver, 58 mm in diameter. Matching hallmarks to the inner. Excellent condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely.
The case includes 3 old watchpapers from the original maker (Robert Street of Hitchin). It is very rare to find original papers still with the watch.
Robert Street is listed in Hitchin, Hertfordshire between 1851 and 1874.
