George Tight
London,c1800
Gilt enamel case
Verge movement

Sold

This is a beautiful English gilt and enamel cased pocket watch, in good working condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement, made in London by George Tight around 1800.

MOVEMENT : Very fine gilded movement in excellent condition. Unusual 6 spoke steel polished steel balance wheel and a charming portrait balance cock. It is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 40mm in diameter. It is in good overall condition but just a few light surface scratches and a tiny chip around the winding hole.
Matching brass hands.

CASE : A wonderful gilt brass case with blue and white enamel borders and a stunning blue enamel guilloche back.
The case is about 52.5mm in diameter. A little wear to the gilding, mostly to the pendant and bow. The hinges and catches are fine and the case closes nicely. The front springs open when the release button is pushed. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is in fine condition.

The enamel is also in good condition with a little of the blue missing on the front at 1 and 5 o’clock. On the back there are two small cracks to the main blue enamel, at the top, but these are minor and don’t detract from a splendid and unusual case.

Loomes lists George Tight, working in Islington, London from 1798.
