Silver inner case

Price £100

Diameter 42.5 mm., inner rim diameter 37 mm., inner depth to rim 15.5 mm.

Silver, hallmarked for London, 1779, maker’s mark IW.

The silver is in good condition with just one light bruise to the edge near the winding aperture. The high dome crystal has no chips and just a few light scratches.
Engraved and pierced to the band and bezel. Two winding apertures, with large sliding shutter. White crystal borders to the bezel and centre of the back, and a large crystal forming the catch button.

The centre of the back, within the crystal border, would originally have been ornamented in some way (enamel or painted plaque) but this is now missing.

Good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezels snaps shut, though is a little bent. The gilding shows a little wear and two of the large crystals is missing from the bezel (though the smaller crystals on the back are complete).

Paul Rimbault is listed at this address in London between 1770 and 1785.
