Gilt & enamel chatelaine
Continental, late 18th century
17 cm.

Sold

A late 18th century gilt metal 5 suspension chatelaine, with 2 inset enamel panels showing figures in a garden.

French or Swiss, probably around 1780.

The gilt suspension chains are complete, terminated with a gilt locket, a blue stone orb locket, a pill box, a tiny gilt/rock crystal locket containing woven hair, and a suspension hook.

The enamel is in very good condition.

The gilt metal shows even wear to the gilding, but no damage or pieces missing.

The pill box is complete and the top closes correctly.  The gilt locket, engraved IID is fine and opens/closes correctly.  The blue stone orb (probably stained marble) is fine and again opens and closes correctly.  The hair lock is complete, but the rock crystal has a crack across the centre.
