A Scottish verge watch, in particularly fine condition.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four round pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws.

Signed Alex. MacFarlane, Perth and numbered 1218.

Running well and in good condition.

DIAL : A white enamel dial, in almost perfect condition, with just a few very light scratches.

Good original 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1792, maker’s mark CS.

All in excellent condition. The bezel snaps shut correctly.

The high dome bull’s eye crystal his fine.

OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner.

The silver is again in very good condition. The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the case snaps shut.

Alexander MacFarlane is listed at Perth between 1789 and 1808.

The case maker is probably Charles Saffell of Clerkenwell Green, London.
