Stock No. 1949
Moilliet Fils
Geneva, c1790
Silver case, 44 mm.
Verge escapement, jump hour
Sold
A very unusual Swiss verge with jump hour enamel dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge escapement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge. The main spring setup is mounted on the top plate.
In very good, clean condition, and running well.
Signed “Moilliet Fils, GENEVA” and numbered 24562.
DIAL : The white enamel dial has an aperture showing jump hours (silver disc) and a centre minute hand.
The dial is in good condition, except for some filled damage along the top edge on either side of the hour aperture.
CASE : The case is silver, with Swiss marks to the inner back and stem. Milled band and engine turning to the back with a central engraving of a church. The inner gilt hinged cuvette is signed ”Humbert A GENEVE”.
The hinge to the cuvette is a little worn but still strong and everything else is in excellent condition, with the engine turned engraving still crisp with no wear. The crystal is good.
Although the case is a perfect fit for the movement, it is presumably a slightly later replacement.
Moilliet Fils are documented as mid 18thc. though this watch appears to be from about 1790.
