Price £625

A silver pair cased verge, with motto dial, all in excellent condition

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four round pillars. Signed Thompson, LOURTH and numbered (58894).

In excellent condition, with no scratches to the plate, undamaged blued steel screws, and running well.

DIAL : Interesting enamel and gilt “Keep me clean” dial. Brass hands.

This is in perfect condition. The outer gilt rim is engraved with :

KEEP ME CLEAN AND USE ME WELL.
AND I TO YOU THE TRUTH WILL TELL.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1872, maker’s mark PW, and movement serial number (58894).

The case snaps shut nicely and the silver is in good condition. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver case, with matching hallmarks to the inner. The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the case shuts correctly. The silver is in good condition, though there is an old repair to the edge of the back, clearly seen from the inside.

The case contains 2 watch papers from Thompson of Louth, presumably the maker. Roughly marked May 78 and Apr 81. This is quite rare to find a watch with the original maker’s papers.

J. Dean Thompson in listed in Louth (Lincs) between 1868 and 1876.
