An early 19thc. London watch with a verge escapement, in a large and heavy silver gilt full hunter case.
MOVEMENT : Signed Bowen & Holt, LONDON and numbered 3282. Verge escapement, with a polished steel balance wheel and diamond endstone to the balance cock. Blued screws and four round pillars.
The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap.
A lever at the edge of the dial at 4 o’clock allows the movement to be stopped and restarted.
In good condition throughout and running well.
DIAL : White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds.
In almost perfect condition, but with one hairline running across the top from 11:30 to 1:30. Gold coloured hands and blued steel seconds hand.
CASE : A very heavy silver gilt, full hunter, case. Hallmarks for London, 1816, maker WB. Silver gilt, with the gilding complete on the inside surfaces (with a few scratches) and mostly worn away on the outer surfaces. Engine turned engraving to both covers.
In good condition, with just a couple of small bruises to the back cover near the stem. The hinges are all fine, and both covers and the bezel snap shut correctly. The front cover is sprung though does not flip open when the button on the stem is depressed (broken case spring ?). The crystal has some chips along the edge at 3.
