A late 18th century English verge, in good gilt repousse pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four round pillars and silver regulator disk. Signed “Abrm. James, London” and numbered (5329).

In good condition, and running well.

DIAL : Excellent white enamel dial.

In good condition, with just some light scratches around 1, a small hairline on the edge at 2, and some rubbing around the edge. No repairs.

Good 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Gilt brass, with maker ‘s mark EL.

In good condition. The high dome crystal is good, with just one tiny chip right on the edge at 9. and some light scratches. The bezel closes correctly. The gilding shows very little wear.

OUTER CASE : A good gilt brass repousse pair case, showing a classical scene including seven figures.

In good condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. The repousse work on the back shows a little wear, but with only one tiny pin hole showing through. There is also some wear to the neck of the case.
