Repeating Pocket Watch by Le Roy

Stock No. 1718

Le Roy & Fils,  Paris c1840
Gold case,  42.5 mm
Cylinder, quarter repeating

Sold

This is a fine quality quarter repeater with cylinder movement, in a gold hunter case, with original Morocco leather travel case.

MOVEMENT : A fully jewelled movement with cylinder escapement, and quarter repeating with two polished steel hammers striking two steel gongs. Nicely blued screws throughout.

The quarter repeating function is activated by a slide on the band of the case at 2.

The movement is in very good condition, with just a little tarnishing in places. It is running well. The repeat function is also working correctly.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial in almost perfect condition with just some small hairline just to the right of the centre. Breguet style hands.
The crystal is fine, but is non mineral, so a replacement.

CASE : The fine gold hunter case has engine turning to the back and front covers, and a coin edge to the band. The cuvette is also gold, and bears a French gold mark.
The cuvette is fully signed and includes the business address in Paris.

All in good condition, with just a little wear to the bow, some even wear to the engine turning, and some minor scratches. One very light bruise to the left hand edge of the front cover. The hinges are all fine and cuvette and both covers close correctly.

The fitted silk and velvet lined, Morocco leather travel case, bears the same maker and address as the watch. There is wear to the outside of the case, but the catch is fine and the case closes correctly.
It is rare to find a watch of this age with the original case from the manufacturer.

Le Roy & Fils are listed at this address in Paris from the 1830s.
