Silver repousse pair cases

A mid 18th century London verge watch, in silver pair cases, with repousse outer.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock and plate, four square baluster pillars, and small regulator disk. Nice unscratched blued steel screws.

Running well, and in good condition.

Signed “Gregory, London” and numbered (3739).

DIAL : A fine signed white enamel dial, in good condition with some scratches but no chips, hairlines or repairs.

Good 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1777, maker’s mark WB and serial number matching the movement.

In good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good. The fine bow and stem are original, though the stem has been reattached.

OUTER CASE : Silver repousse pair case.

In good condition with only light wear to the repousse high points but no holes. The hinge, catch button and catch are complete and the case snaps shut.

The maker is probably Henry Gregory (II) who was partner with his father (of the same name) at Leadenhall Street, London from 1776.

The case maker is probably William Boulton of 55 Bread Street, Cheapside, London.
