Verge movement

Sold

A fine quality late 18th century London verge movement, in gold pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four square baluster pillars, small silver regulator disk and blued screws. Signed (Rd. Camden. London) and numbered (1460).

This movement is in good, complete, condition and is running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial in good condition, with some surface scratches (eg. the XII numeral) and just a few small flakes around the centre aperture.

Excellent 19th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Gold, with London hallmarks for 22ct., 1778, maker’s mark WB.

In good condition, though with an old repair to the in side where a gold plate has been added to reinforce the stem. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is also fine.

OUTER CASE : Gold pair case with London hallmarks for 22ct. The year and maker’s marks are scratched and worn, but the W of the makers name is still visible and the case is a perfect fit, so clearly they are a matching pair.

The back is engraved with a monogram JN.

A few scratches and light bruises, but generally in good condition. The catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The catch button is slightly dented..
