Gold repousse and enamel case, 47 mm.
Verge escapement

Sold

A beautifully decorated, mid 18thc., gold cased Paris verge.

MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with verge escapement, the large balance bridge finely engraved and pierced with scrolls. Large silver regulator disk and four round baluster pillars.

Signed (Bugnon A Paris).

The movement is in excellent condition, and is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In very good condition (probably restored), with just one small chip on the edge at 11:30.

Excellent fancy gold hands.

CASE : Rose gold, with profuse repousse work to the bezel and back. The gold bezel is laid over an amber coloured enamel, with green enamel cabochons. The back has a yellow gold repousse plaque to the centre, portraying the Greek myth of ‘Leda and the Swan’, set on an orange guilloche enamel. Surrounding this is a gold repousse floral band, overlaying an amber enamel, with the gold flowers highlighted with green enamel.

Good general condition throughout, though most of the green enamel highlights are completely or partially missing. There is one small flake to the amber enamel on the bezel, but the rest of the enamel is fine. The gold is in good condition with just a little wear around the rims of the bezel and back. The hinge is fine.

The high dome crystal is good, with a few light scratches but no chips.

Jean Bugnon is listed in Paris in 1765.
