Silver & shagreen pair cases, 57 mm.
Verge escapement

Sold

A very attractive French verge, in silver and shagreen pair cases.

MOVEMENT : A verge movement, with a large and beautifully engraved and pierced silver balance bridge, with ruby endstone. Large silver regulator disk, an engraved silver rim to the top plate, and four square baluster pillars.

Signed “Esquivillon et De Choudens” and numbered “25590”.

In very good condition and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In perfect condition, except for a small chip on the edge at 5.

Nice matching gilt fancy hands.

INNER CASE : A plain silver case, with maker’s mark D&R.

All in good condition, but with wear to one outer sleeve of the hinge. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

OUTER CASE : Brass base with silver hinge and rims and a shagreen covering.

The shagreen in is quite good condition, though with restoration around the edges of the back and to the top half of the bezel.

The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

This outer case is slightly too big for the inner, so is probably a replacement, though of the same period as the watch.

Esquillion et De Choudens are listed in Paris between 1765 and 1830
