Verge escapement, mock pendulum

Sold

An early French ‘oignon’ verge, with mock pendulum verge escapement, and a fine enamel dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with a very large and beautifully engraved and pierced silver over brass balance bridge, with birds, foliage and a cut out window showing the balance. Four elongated Egyptian pillars and a small, early style silver regulator disk.

There are a few scratches to the top plate, but generally all in good condition. Running well.

DIAL : Beautiful enamel dial, with blue numerals each painted on a raised cartouche. In quite good condition, with a scratch on the 6 numeral, and another just below the centre. Repairs on the edge at 1, 3 and 11.

Nice steel hands, of the correct style for the period, and possibly original.

CASE : An engraved gilt case, with foliage and birds around the bezel, band and back. The bow and stem appear to be original.

In good condition with just some light wear to the back. The hinges are fine and the bezel closes nicely. Good high dome crystal with a couple of small scratches, and a small chip right on the bezel at 3.
