MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, blued screws, four square pillars, and silver regulator disk. Signed (Benj. Goddard, London) and numbered (852). Good condition throughout, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial in quite good condition, with no repairs but some light scratches and some rubbing around the edge between 10 and 12. Fancy gilt hands which have been strengthened by adding solder to the backs.

INNER CASE : Silver, with London hallmarks for 1780, maker IT. In good condition throughout.

The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome, bull’s eye crystal has some chips on the edge at 9 and 3.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with marks matching the inner. In very good condition throughout.

There are two instances of a Benjamin Goddard documented in London in the second half of the 18th century. The first is listed at St. Giles, Cripplegate in 1751 and the second at Bethnal Green in 1792
