A large and impressive gold cased pocket watch, with a quarter/hour repeating cylinder movement. All in particularly good condition.

MOVEMENT : Cylinder movement, incorporating an hour/quarter repeating function which is activated by pushing down the stem. The repeater strikes two gongs, with one chime for the hours and two for the quarters. The repeating function can be disabled by a slide button on the side of the case. Both movement and repeat function are running perfectly.

DIAL : Silver engine turned dial with gold Breguet type hands. Very nice condition with just a few light marks but no scratches. The mineral crystal is perfect.

CASE : The large engine turned gold case has French 18ct gold marks on the inside of the back and the stem. The gilt brass cuvette is engraved as follows : No. 439 S. Devaulx Rue St. Honore No. 255 A PARIS All hinges and catches are fine and both covers (and bezel) snap closed. The case is in very good condition with no damage or repairs, and just a little wear to the engine turning on the eadges of the back cover.

This is a substantial watch, 54.5 mm in diameter (excluding the stem) and weighing 95 gms (including the movement).

It was made around 1820 Devaulx is listed at Palais Royale, Paris from the early 19thc. He was Clockmaker to Mademoiselle d’Orleans.
