Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

A large and impressive “doctor’s verge” with stop lever, very elegant dial, and wonderful gilt movement.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with pierced balance cock and wonderfully engraved plate. Blued screws and large silvered regulator disk. Fully signed and numbered (8518). Exceptional condition throughout and running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel “doctors’ dial”, with overlapping chapters. In good condition with no repairs, but with some nibbles around the edge at 10, 12 and 7, though these are hidden by the bezel.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1803, maker’s mark MC. Very good condition throughout. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

OUTER CASE : Silver with no hallmarks. The case has been strengthened to the inner back with a layer of silver, so this has covered the original hallmarks. However it is a perfect fit, so almost certainly the original. The silver is in very good condition and the old repair has been well done. The hinge and catch are fine, though the catch button has a little wear.
