Gold case
Verge movement
Sold
A fine early 18th century London small verge, with gold champleve dial, is a later purpose made solid gold case.
MOVEMENT : Beautiful quality, very small verge movement, fully signed (Isac. Thomson) and numbered (350). Beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. All in good condition (a few scratches) and running well.
DIAL : Signed gold champleve dial, in fine condition with just a few light scratches and a few small pieces of black infill missing. Very unusually having the movement release catch at 3 o’clock, rather than 6. Excellent early 18th century black steel hour hand and later replaced minute hand.
CASE : 18ct gold hallmarks for London, 1819, maker WB. The bow and crown are also 18ct gold and are original to the case (crown and bezel are also hallmarked). The gold case is in good condition, with just a couple of tiny dents and some small scratches (see 2nd photo of case).
The hinges and catches are fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal has a few scratches but no chips.
The movement fits the case perfectly and will have been made specially for this fine movement.
