MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed (G. Carter, HITCHIN) and numbered (11286). All in good original condition and running well.
DIAL : Cream enamel, 45.75 mm in diameter. Perfect condition. Gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1865. Maker’s mark DE. Excellent condition throughout. Good high dome bull’s eye crystal with no damage. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly.
OUTER CASE : Silver, matching hallmarks to the inner. Excellent condition throughout except that the catch button has been replaced and is a little small. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. There are some very light marks on the back of the case which I believe are faults in the original manufacture rather than later wear or damage.
George Carter is listed in Hitchin between 1851 and 1874.
