Gold pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge and plate. Four square pillars. Signed and numbered (9274). All in very good original condition with the gilding unscratched and bright. Running well.

DIAL : 38 mm. White enamel in almost perfect condition with no repairs, and just some tiny chips around the edge. Good quality fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE : 42.5 mm. High carat solid rose coloured gold. Rubbed maker’s mark. Excellent condition with just some wear to the bow and some tiny bruises around the band. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. Good high dome crystal with no damage.

OUTER CASE : 49.2 mm. A fine solid rose gold engraved case. The catch and hinge are good and the case snaps shut nicely. There is a little wear to the engraved decoration at the centre of the back but no repairs or damage.

This watch would have been made on the continent (probably France or Switzerland) and spuriously signed with a London maker. This was common practice during the mid 18th century. The movement, dial and case are good quality and typically continental.
