Silver gilt pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, fully signed (Septimus Miles, Ludgate St.) and numbered (2741). Engraved and beautifully pierced balance cock with diamond endstone. All in good original condition and running well.

DIAL : 37.5 mm, gilt engine turned, with applied rose gold numerals. Nice condition with just a few very minor scratches. Beautiful matching gold hands.

INNER CASE : 42.5 mm. London hallmarks for 1832 and maker’s mark HV. Good condition with just a little wear to the gilding to the edge of the bezel, around the sides and to the engraved pendant. The pendant is also stamped with the silver hallmark for London, 1832. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : 50 mm. Matching hallmarks to the inner. Beautifully engraved. Excellent condition with just some wear to the gilding in the middle of the back. Signs of regilding on the inside. The hinge, catch and button are fine and the case snaps shut.

Septimus Miles is listed in Ludgate Street, London from 1775 between 1795 and 1840. The date of the watch (1832) is interesting, as the movement is of a mid 18th century style, but no doubt that the movement and case are original and made in 1832. Presumably Miles had a reason to make movements in a very traditional style.
