London, c1720
Silver pair cases
Verge quarter repeating movement

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with pierced and engraved balance cock. Signed “W. Kipling, LONDON’. Quarter repeating with 2 hammers on a bell. Both the watch movement and repeating mechanism are working fine. The chime is loud and clear.

This is a very fine quality movement with beautiful engraving around the dial plate and repeating barrel as well as the top plate and balance cock. All in excellent condition and complete except for the touch piece which is missing (a lever through the case which vibrates when the repeater is activated).

DIAL : 42.5 mm. Nice white enamel dial, in excellent condition with no repairs and just a small chip on the catch at 6. A slightly later replacement, probably mid 18th century. 18th century beetle and poker steel hands

INNER CASE : 50 mm, silver, no hallmarks. Beautifully pierced and engraved and in fine condition.

OUTER CASE : 59.5 mm, silver. The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the case snaps closed (though with a gap near the stem). As with the inner, a beautiful case in excellent condition.

William Kipling is listed in London between 1705 and 1737.
