Benjamin Sidey
London, c1770
Silver case
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Fully signed and numbered (5054). Gilded verge movement with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock featuring a portrait and military emblems. Diamond endstone. In excellent, clean, original condition and running well.

DIAL : 38 mm. White enamel. Excellent condition, with just a tiny flake at the centre. Later dial, contemporary with the case.

CASE : 44 mm. Later silver case, fully hallmarked for London, 1837, maker WC. Very good condition, with just a few light scratches to the high dome bull’s eye crystal. The hinges are good and the case snaps shut nicely.

The movement is a perfect fit for the case, and it is likely that this case was made specially for this fine movement.

Benjamin Sidey was the Master of the Clockmaker’s Company in 1761 and again in 1789. He died around 1790.
