Gilt pair cases
MOVEMENT : The gilded verge movement is signed (Edw. Prior, London) and numbered (66614). Nice ornamental pillars. All appears to be original and it is running well.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 32 mm in diameter. There are two hairlines from the centre, some surface scratches and a large repair around the right hand side of the centre hole. Blued steel hands.
INNER CASE : 39 mm. Brass gilt, maker’s mark JBWW. Good condition with just a little wear to the gilding around the edge. The catch and high dome bull’s eye crystal are fine. The hinge has one sleeve missing but the case closes nicely.
OUTER CASE : 45.5 mm. Beautifully engraved brass gilt. The gilding is still bright and there is no wear or damage except for some small dents on the catch button.
Loomes lists Edward Prior in London between 1812 and 1868. Prior specialized in watches for the Eastern market and was making verge watches of 18th century style, still popular in this market, right up until the late 19th century. This is a particularly small example.
