Thomas Mudge
London, c1759
Silver pair cases
Cylinder movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilded cylinder fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and large diamond endstone. Signed (Thos. Mudge, London) and numbered (665). All appears to be original and is running well. Nice condition though with some scratches on the top plate around the pillars.
The dustcap is signed “Thos. Mudge, W. Dutton, London”.

DIAL : White enamel, 35.5 mm in diameter. It is in fine condition except for one small repair on the edge at 6 o’clock. Nice old blued steel hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, 41 mm in diameter. Hallmarked for London, 1847. Maker’s mark JW. Excellent condition. Good high dome bull’s eye crystal with some light scratches but no other damage.

OUTER CASE : Silver, 48 mm in diameter. Matching hallmarks to the inner. Again in very good condition with just wear to the catch button.

These cases are a perfect fit for the movement and are of an 18thc style so I believe were probably made specially for this movement.

The serial number (665) on this movement dates it to 1759 or 1760. William Dutton became Thomas Mudge’s partner in 1750.
