John Ellicott
London, 1764
Silver gilt pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : The gilded verge movement is signed (Ellicott, LONDON) and numbered (5576). Very nice, clean condition. All appears to be original and it is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is in fine condition with just some light surface scratches and a light hairline running across the bottom under 6.

INNER CASE : 42.5 mm. Silver gilt, hallmarked for London, 1764, and marked with the movement number (5576). Good condition though with a little wear to the gilding around the edge. Fine high dome bull’e eye crystal with no damage except for a tiny chip on the edge, almost hidden by the bezel.

OUTER CASE : 50 mm. Brass gilt, maker’s mark IG. A little wear to the gilding on the back and button, but otherwise fine.

John Ellicott watches are numbered 4770 from 1760 and 6435 from 1770 so this watch (no. 5576) is correct for the hallmark of 1764. From 1758 all John Ellicott watches were simply signed Ellicott.
