Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

An English silver pair cased watch, with a ‘doctors’ dial and verge movement, by William Ewbank of Elland, near Halifax, Yorkshire.

MOVEMENT : The verge movement is signed and numbered (512). It is running well and the stop lever of the outside of the case is correctly starting and stopping the movement.

DIAL : The large white enamel convex dial is about 45.5 mm in diameter. It is in good condition except for small repairs around the edge at 1 and 3 and a larger repair at 5 o’clock.

INNER CASE : Hallmarked for Birmingham, maker WR, but the year mark rubbed. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine and the case is in very nice condition.

OUTER CASE : This is a later, white metal case, in excellent condition and a perfect fit, so I’m sure was made specially for this watch.

Loomes lists William Ewbank in Elland in 1795.
