Silver pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
MOVEMENT : Nicely gilded movement in good, clean condition, and quite typical of the mid 18th century. Beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock, nice wide foot to the balance cock, and finely made square pillars. It is running well.
DIAL : The painted enamel dial is about 36 mm in diameter. It is in good condition with one light hairline running across the top between 11 and 1 and a small chip with short hairlines around the catch at 6 o’clock. No repairs.
INNER CASE : No hallmarks but a maker’s mark MA and year 1771. High dome crystal in good condition. The pendant has the usual repaired join to the case. This old repair has not been done well, is weak, and should be redone. Otherwise the silver is in good condition, the hinge is fine and the case closes nicely.
OUTER CASE : No hallmarks or other marks. The hinge, catch and release button are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The silver is in reasonable condition for its age but has a few bruises and has a few repairs visible from the inside.
