An early 19th century Norfolk watch with a rack lever escapement.

MOVEMENT : Gilt rack lever movement, with nicely engraved balance cock, diamond endstone, blued screws, and four round pillars.

Signed J. P. Saddleton, LYNN and numbered 4973.

In good condition, with a few scratches around the pillar tops, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In good condition, but with some light hairlines running across the top of the dial and a little chip right on the edge at 2.

Gilt hands.

INNER CASE : Gilded brass with maker’s mark IE.

In good condition though the gilding has rubbed off the outer surfaces. The hinge is fine and the bezel shuts correctly.

The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Gilt pair case with matching maker’s mark to the inner.

In good condition though again the gilding has rubbed off. There is an old repair to the hinge, which is well done, and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

The outer case contains a local watchmaker’s paper, from G.Norris of Woodridge, Suffolk, dated 1868.

James Parlett Saddleton worked in King’s Lynn, Norfolk from 1801 until 1845.
