Exceptionally Large Silver Pair Case – York, 1812

A very rare, huge silver pair cased pocket watch, in very good condition.

MOVEMENT : A gilded lever escapement, with nicely engraved balance cock, large diamond endstone, Boseley type regulator and fine blued screws. Four round pillars.

Signed and numbered (15426). The movement is protected by a removable gilt brass dust cap, signed and numbered as the movement.

The movement is in excellent condition and is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial, again in very good condition.

There are a few very light scratches (one about 3 mm. long, halfwav between 11 and the centre) and some very thin enamel loss on the edge between 4:30 and 5:15.

Very fine matching gold hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with clear hallmarks for London, 1812 maker’s mark TG, and matching movement serial number.

Excellent condition, except for some scratches around the opening catch.
The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut, leaving just a slight gap on the right hand side The high dome crystal is also in very good condition.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching hallmarks and maker’s mark to the inner. The back is beautifully engraved with a hunting scene and a monogram (JW)

Again in excellent condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

The watch weighs a total of 300 gms. and is by far the largest silver pair cased watch of this period that we have seen.
