An early 19th century Liverpool watch with a rack lever escapement, in very good condition throughout.

MOVEMENT : Gilt rack lever movement, with nicely engraved balance cock, diamond endstone, blued screws, and four round pillars. Protected by a removable gilt dustcap.

Signed T. Cranage LIVERPOOL and numbered 1899.

In very good condition throughout, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In very good condition, but with a short hairline on the edge at 10, and a tiny nibble on the edge at 7. Gold coloured hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with Chester hallmarks for 1814, maker’s mark rubbed..

In good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel shuts correctly.
The high dome crystal is quite scratched.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching hallmarks to the inner.

In good condition. The bezel snaps shut correctly.

The watchmaker is probably Thomas Cranage, listed in Liverpool between 1790 and 1836.
