Silver Gilt Pocket Watch Pair Cases

Stock No. P048

English, 1809/19
Silver gilt pair cases, 57.5 mm.

Sold

Substantial silver gilt pair cases.

INNER CASE : Silver gilt.
Diameter 51 mm, inner diameter 46 mm, inner depth to dial plate base 12 mm.

Hallmarks for silver, Birmingham, 1809, maker’s mark WR (William Ryley, Coventry). Engraved on the back with the owner’s name “J. P. Tansley, JERSEY”.

Very good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut. The bow and stem are original. The high dome crystal has no chips or cracks, but light surface scratches. There is just a little wear to the gilding on the back.

OUTER CASE : Silver gilt.
Diameter 57.5 mm.

Hallmarks for silver, London, 1819, maker’s mark M.L. Engraved on the back with the owner’s initials “J. T.”.

Good condition throughout, though the catch is missing. There is a little wear to the inner edge of the bezel between 1 and 2, and the hinge is also a little worn.

Although the outer case is 10 years later than the inner, they are a perfect fit, and with the same name engraved on both, have probably always been a pair, with the outer a replacement, specially made to fit the inner.
