This is a very rare and early London clockwatch movement. For repair.
MOVEMENT : Signed John Finch, London.
The movement is not running, with the following known issues :
The balance staff has broken.
The balance hairspring is absent.
The fusee chain or gut cord is absent.
The mainspring is either unhooked or broken within the barrel.
The small regulator pinion at the end of the striking train is absent.
There are parts of the strike mechanism on the dial plate which are also missing, but please use the photo as a guide to this.
Excepting the missing parts, the remainder is in very good condition, and the gilding is still bright.
MOVEMENT SIZE : 10 mm between the plates. Top plate 35 mm. Dial plate 37 mm.
John Finch was apprenticed in around 1668 and free of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1676. He died around 1710.
