A fine, late 18th century oak cased, 8 day longcase clock, by Sheffield clockmaker Samuel Hill.
In good condition and running well.

MOVEMENT : Brass movement, with 4 pillars. Strikes the hours.

Complete, running and striking well. Complete with winder.

DIAL : 13” silvered dial, with subsidiary seconds dial. Signed ‘SAML. HILL, Sheffield’.

In good condition, with just a few very light scratches

Finely made black steel hands.

CASE : Oak, with some nice architectural features. Cast gilt brass capitals and bases to the columns of the hood. Gilt brass finial to the top centre of the hood. Complete with door key and tassle.

In good overall condition. The door is slightly warped, with a small pieces missing from the top left hand corner, and there is a small piece missing from the bottom left of the inner frame of the hood. A few shrinkage cracks but very good for its age.

Samuel Hill is listed at Totley and Ecclesfield (both near Sheffield) from about 1760 and then Broad Lane, Sheffield from 1781 until about 1795).
