London, 1777
Silver repousse pair cases, 50 mm
Verge escapement
Price £675
A late 18thc. London watch, in silver repousse pair cases.
MOVEMENT : The gilt movement has a verge escapement, and engraved and pierced balance bridge. Four square pillars, polished steel screws and silver regulator disk.
Signed ALLEN WALKER and numbered 181.
All in very good condition, and running well.
DIAL : Signed white enamel dial, in reasonable condition, with no repairs but some surface scratches, a chip on the edge at 7 and a short hairline from the edge at 11
Fancy gilt hands, in good condition.
INNER CASE : Silver, with London hallmarks for 1777 (rubbed), case serial number 5082 and maker’s mark JC? (rubbed).
In reasonable condition, though there is the usual compression around the band and wear to the hinge, with the middle leaf missing. However the hinge is still functional and the bezel closes though doesn’t snap shut.
The high dome crystal is good.
OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, decorated with repousse work to the back and bezel.
In reasonable condition. The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut. The catch button is base metal rather than silver so may be a replacement.
Most of the high points of the repousse work on the back have worn though there are no holes.
Allen Walker is listed in London and Amsterdam from the mid 18thc until 1783.
This watch shows features common to Continental manufacture, especially the balance bridge and dial.
