Price £2650 Reserved
A charming little gold triple cased watch in particularly fine condition.
MOVEMENT : A gilt verge movement, with four square pillars, the finely pierced and engraved balance cock with a ruby endstone.
Signed J Coulin & Amy Bry, Geneva and numbered 10107.
The movement is in very fine original condition, and is running well.
DIAL : Signed white enamel. In excellent condition with no restoration or damage. Crystal set hands, with just one crystal missing.
INNER CASE : Gold (tests at about 15 ct.), with worn maker’s mark on the inner back.
Reasonable condition, with a few light dents, the usual slight compression around the band and signs of repair to the inside rim around the stem. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The very high dome crystal is also good.
MIDDLE CASE : Multicoloured gold (again tests at about 15 ct.) with no maker’s marks. Crystal set bezel to front and back, and enamel plaque to the back.
Excellent condition. The hinge and catch are fine, and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The catch button is dented but still functional. There is just one crystal missing from the bezel.
The enamel plaque on the back is framed by a blue, gold and orange enamel border, itself set with crystals and filigree silver. The plaque itself is beautifully painted with a lady in a fantastic feather hat. The enamel is in excellent condition.
The overall condition of this case, which has been protected by an outer third case, is particularly good
OUTER CASE : Gilt and shell, with glazed exhibition back.
There are some small pieces of shell missing but generally in very good condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely. The very high domed glass back is fine.
Jacques Coulin & Amy Bry are listed in Paris and Geneva between 1784 and 1800.
