Late 18thc. enamel cased verge
Stock No. 2187
Meuron & Co.
Geneva, c1790
Gilt & enamel case, 49 mm.
Verge escapement
Price £3250
A late 18thc. verge in a very rare enamel case, probably made in Geneva.
MOVEMENT : The gilt movement has a verge escapement, with a finely engraved and pierced balance bridge, four round pillars and a silver regulator disk.
Signed Meuron & Comp.
All in good condition, and running well.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is signed as the movement.
In quite good condition though with a small flake at the winding aperture, and a little damage around the edge at 11-12 and 6.
Fine blued steel Breguet style hands in good condition.
CASE : This is a very rare enamel case, with engraved gilt rims, and polychrome enamel decoration to the bezel, inner case and back.
The bezel shows figures in a wooded landscape. The inside shows a romantic couple in a similar setting, and the back shows a classical scene with three figures and a dog.
The case is in very good condition. The hinge is fine and the high dome crystal is also good.
The gilding is in good condition with just some wear to the bow and stem.
The enamel is also in good condition, with a few very short hairlines. Possibly some restoration to the bezel but this has been very well done.
The firm of Meuron et Companie were in Paris and Geneva around 1790, so this watch could be French or Swiss.
