An early 19th century verge escapement watch, in a gold case, all in very good condition.

MOVEMENT : A fine quality gilt verge movement, the engraved balance cock with diamond endstone. Four round pillars, polished steel balance wheel and clean blued screws.

Signed PETER UPJOHN, London and numbered 22231.

This movement is in very good condition and is running well.

DIAL : Gold dial with engine turned engraving to the centre.. In very goods condition, with just some very light and short scratches.

Blued steel hands, again in good condition.

CASE : An 18ct. gold case with engined turned engraving to the back, a milled band and engraved bow and stem. The bezel correctly springs open when the button on the stem is pressed.

Hallmarked for 18ct. gold, London, 1820, maker WB.

The gold is in good condition throughout, with just one light short scratch on the back near the centre.

The hinges are fine. The movement catch is good and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.

Peter Upjohn is listed working at Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell from 1778 until 1832.
