Stock No. 2143
Anon.
Mid/late 17thc.
Gold case, 34.5 mm. x 42 mm. (excluding ring).
Verge escapement (later)
Sold
A very fine and early gold repousse case, with later verge movement.
MOVEMENT : A late 18thc. replacement verge movement.
The balance swings, and the balance staff is ok, though not running. The fusee, chain and mainspring are ok, so the movement is complete except for the motion wheels on the dial plate. The cannon pinion has two broken teeth.
DIAL : A nicely painted enamel dial, with some damage around the winding aperture, and a chip on the edge at 6. The 3 dial feet still remain, though they are worn at the ends so the dial is not pinned in place.
No hands.
CASE : 22 ct. gold, with high relief repousse decoration to the band, back and cover. With blue, green and white enamel decoration to the band and cover.
Some of the enamel is missing from the band, and less from the cover.
The stem has been reattached, and there is an old solder repair to the catch
The very detailed repousse decoration is in wonderful condition, with very little wear.
The gold is of heavy gauge and there are no holes
This beautiful case deserves better than this rather poor late 18thc. replacement movement. Hopefully a more fitting movement can be found for such a rare and early case.
