Silver case, 53 mm.
Cylinder escapement, quarter repeating movement
Price £850
An early19th century silver cylinder watch, with quarter repeat on demand.
MOVEMENT : A gilt movement with cylinder escapement and standing mainspring barrel.
The watch movement is in good condition, and is running well.
The repeating movement is working correctly, striking hours and quarters on demand by the button on the top of the stem. There are two steel hammers striking two gongs. A slide on the band at 2 allows the repeat to be disabled.
There is one repair to the repeating movement, where one of the gongs has been reattached to the fixing block. However the chime still has a good clear tone
DIAL : White enamel dial.
In good condition, with just some minor scratches.
Blued steel Breguet type hands.
CASE : The silver case has engine turned engraving to the bezel, band and back.
The maker’s mark DC and serial numbers 85, 9357 and 8126 are stamped on the inside of the cover, with a French silver mark (used from 1819).
Gilt sprung cuvette.
The case is in good condition, with just some even wear to the engine turning and one small dent on the rim of the back at 11. The high dome crystal is fine. All hinges are fine and the bezel, back cover and cuvette all close correctly.
