Sold

An early 19thc. Cornish verge escapement watch, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : The gilt fusee movement has a verge escapement, a particularly finely engraved and pierced balance cock, four round pillars, and a Bosley type regulator.

Signed A.Selig, PENZANCE and numbered 11156.

There are scratches around the pillar tops, and one pillar is secured by a steel screw rather than a brass pin, but otherwise in reasonable condition. Running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is in reasonable condition, with no repairs but with a light hairline running across the bottom from 5 towards 8 and another from the edge at 5 towards the centre.

Gilt brass hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with London hallmarks for 1825 and maker’s mark ?W.

In very good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The crystal is also good.

OUTER CASE : A heavy silver pair case, with marks matching the inner. Here the maker’s mark is clearly JW.

In very good condition. The hinge and catch are good and the case snaps shut correctly. The catch button has worn down a little but is still functional.
