An interesting pair cased verge watch with ‘Doctor’s dial’ having central minutes, and subsidiary dials for the hours, seconds and date.
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement with engraved and pierced balance cock with diamond endstone. Blued screws and start/start lever at 2.
All in good condition and running well. The stop lever operates correctly, and the calendar mechanism is complete and operates correctly.
Signed Underwood, London and numbered 20924.
DIAL : The large white signed enamel dial has a centre minutes hand and subsidiary dials for seconds, minutes and date.
It is in reasonable condition with no repairs. There are however some light surface scratches and damage around the edge between 5 and 10, between 15 and 20, at 33, and with two tiny chips on the edge at 45 and 60.
INNER CASE : White metal with no hallmarks. Case number 7337 and maker’s mark DLP?.
The metal is in quite good condition though with some compression around the band. The bow and stem are a little worn. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good with just two tiny chips right on the edge at 15 and 50. The hinge and catch are good and the bezel closes properly.
OUTER CASE : White metal with no hallmarks. Case number 334.
In good condition throughout, except for an old repair to a short split from the neck at the back. The hinge, catch and button are fine and the case closes correctly.
The movement fits the inner case perfectly, and the inner case fits the outer case also perfectly, but the cases may not be original to the movement.
