A mid 18thc. London silver pair cased watch
MOVEMENT : The gilt fusee movement has a verge escapement, finely engraved and pierced balance cock with scrolls and a flower to the centre. Four square pillars, blued steel screws and a Tompion type regulator.
The balance cock table, foot and the edge of the plate are all pierced and engraved with a ‘lace’ pattern. This decoration was a popular form of decoration for London makers, but only used for a short period between about 1750 and 1770.
Signed J.Wood, LONDON and numbered 5374.
Running well and in good condition.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is in excellent condition, with just some very light scratches and a tiny chip on the edge at 6 (opening catch).
Fine 18thc. blued steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1759 and maker’s marl JW. The back is nicely engraved with an owner’s name ‘William Jenner’.
In good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and the bow is a little worn and distorted.. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal has a few scratches but no chips.
OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks matching the inner.
In good condition. The hinge and catch are good and the case snaps shut correctly. However the catch button has worn down though is still functional.
