A mid 18thc. London silver pair cased watch
MOVEMENT : The gilt fusee movement has a verge escapement, finely engraved and pierced balance cock with scrolls and a flower to the centre. Four square pillars, and a Tompion type regulator.
Signed Jno. Watson, London and numbered 348.
Running well and in good condition.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is in excellent condition, with just some very light scratches..
Gilt brass hands (later).
INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1786 and maker’s marl EH. The back is nicely engraved with an owner’s name ‘D. Faux’.
In reasonable condition, though the pendant has been reattached and possibly replaced. The hinge has two sleeves missing but the bezel snaps shut correctly. The winding aperture is very slightly out of line with the winding square of the movement, so the cases may replacements.
The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good except for a chip on the edge at 12.
OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner.
In good condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are good and the case snaps shut correctly. There is a worn monogram engraved on the back.
