A mid 18thc. London watch, in gilt and tortoiseshell pair cases, in particularly fine condition.
MOVEMENT : The gilt movement has a verge escapement, and engraved and pierced balance cock, showing scrolls and foliage. Four round pillars, silver regulator disk and undamaged blued screws.
Signed Sam Toulmin and numbered 3598.
All in excellent condition, and running well.
DIAL : Nice white enamel dial, in excellent condition, with just a couple of light scratches.
Good 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Gilt brass case, with no maker’s mark.
In excellent condition throughout, with no wear to the gilding. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE : A tortoiseshell covered gilt pair case.
In very good condition, with good colour to the shell. The back is perfect with no damage to the shell or pins missing. The bezel has a sliver of shell missing around the rim between 2 and 5, but no pins missing.
The catch button, catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
