Stock No. 1896

James McCabe
London, c1820
Silver case, 53 mm
Duplex escapement

Sold

A wonderful quality movement, by James McCabe, with ruby roller duplex escapement. Recased in slightly earlier case.

MOVEMENT : Gilt movement, the duplex escapement with ruby roller. Engraved balance cock, jewel endstone, gold balance wheel (with balance screws), and blued screws. Four round pillars.

Signed Jas. McCabe, Royal Exchange, LONDON and numbered 10451.

In almost mint condition and running well.

The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial, in perfect condition except for one hairline running across the bottom between 5 and 6. Signed and numbered as the movement.

Gold hands in nice condition.

CASE : A silver hunter, with London hallmarks for 1811 and rubbed maker’s mark. The front cover is sprung, so flips open when the button on the stem is depressed.

In good condition throughout. The hinges are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The crystal is scratched.

This watch dates from about 1820. The case is a slightly earlier replacement. It is a good fit for the movement, though has no winding aperture, so the case needs to be opened to wind the movement.
