Verge movement

Sold

A verge with cream enamel doctors’ dial and stopwatch lever, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with unusually small engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed (J. Hess, LIVERPOOL).

The lever on the side of the case stops and restarts the movement.

Good condition, with just some scratches around the pillar tops. Running well.

The movement would originally have had a gilt brass removable dustcap which is now absent.

DIAL : Fine cream enamel dial with overlapping chapter rings. In very good condition with just some very light surface scratches.

INNER CASE : Silver, with Chester hallmarks for 1800 and maker’s mark IB (rubbed). In good condition throughout. The high dome crystal is fine. The hinge is a little worn but the bezel snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : Heavy silver pair case with hallmarks matching the inner. The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the case closes correctly. In overall fine condition.

The outer case contains 2 early watchpapers from Colraine in Northern Ireland.
