Price £725

A late 18thc. verge watch, with polychrome dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, the table with lace edging. Four square pillars and silver regulator disk.

Running well.

Signed Stokes, London and numbered 17351.

DIAL : A polychrome enamel dial, with pastoral scene around the chapter ring. Good early steel beetle and poker hands

There is a scratch and a hairline running from the edge towards the centre through 4, and a scratch around the edge at 4, but otherwise the charming painted scene is in fine condition. There is one foot missing from the dial false plate but the dial is pinned firmly to the movement.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London 1778..

In reasonable condition, with a few light dents though there is a split in the silver just under the rim between 2 and 5. The hinge is fine and the bezel does closes. The high dome bull’s eye crystal has light scratches but no chips.

OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching hallmarks to the inner, and maker’s mark IT.

The silver is again in reasonable condition, with one light dent on the bezel and a few on the back. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut correctly. The catch button is squashed down, though still functions.
